Have you wanted to lose a few extra pounds? Are you tired of trying the latest weight loss diet out in the market? Then maybe it's time to get back to the basics. Try these 10 weight loss tips and get started taking off those unwanted pounds today.
1. Write Our A Goal
How much weight do you want to lose? Write it down. Whenever you have something written down you are telling yourself that it is important. A goal is no different than writing down something you need from the grocery store. You're saying this is something I want to be sure and do.
2. Start An Exercise Routine
I know this one may sound unpleasant, but in order to lose the pounds you will have to get some exercise. The good news is that you don't have to work up a storm and sweat like crazy in order to accomplish your goal. You can start by exercising just 30 minutes 3 times a week. It need only be brisk walking or riding a bike. Later, you can work out with some light weights to burn even more calories. The best advice anyone can give is to start out slow and don't burn yourself out.
3. Cut Down On The Soda
This one will get most people. I know, soda tastes great, but it certainly is NOT less filling. The amount of calories and carbohydrates in regular soda is enormous. You'll be amazed at how much weight you can lose by simply giving up the regular soda. Try drinking bottled water instead.
4. Cut Out The Junk Food
Notice I didn't say cut DOWN, but cut out? It's for a good reason. Fast food and junk food is the single biggest contributing factor to weight gain that there is. If you doubt what I am saying I would encourage you to look at the number of carbs and calories on that fast food meal you're eating for lunch or dinner.
As a quick example, a Grilled Stuft Burrito from Taco Bell comes in at a whopping 79 Carbs and over 700 Calories! Or, a Big Mac, large fries and soda from McDonald's will load you up with 187 Carbs and nearly 1400 Calories! These are just two examples of thousands I could list. Is it any wonder we are putting on the weight as a nation? Fast food is literally killing us.
I know it's not realistic to never eat a fast food meal. I would only encourage you to try and eliminate it from your diet. The bottom line, fast food and weight loss do not go together in any sense of the word.
5. Drink Plenty Of Water
The best thing you can do for your body is to fill it with water. Not only is water great for your body, but as an added benefit, it gives you a feeling of being full. You'll notice that you won't eat as much if you drink plenty of water. Your stomach is fooled into thinking it's already full.
6. Don't Get Caught Up In The Latest Weight Loss Diet Plan
Has this ever happened to you? You start out on the newest weight loss fad and lose a fast 5-10 pounds, only to go off of it a few later and gain the weight all back. If you're really unlucky you'll even put on a few extra pounds to boot! It's frustrating to say the least. By sticking to the weight loss basics you'll go a long ways in losing the pounds naturally, and keeping them off over time. Isn't that your real goal anyway?
7. Don't Skip Breakfast
Eating breakfast is important with any weight loss plan. By simply eating just a small breakfast will help reduce the cravings you'll inevitably get during the morning if you don't. It helps to keep your body well balanced and healthier.
8. Don't Overeat
This seems like a common sense tip, but have you really watched how people will eat everything on their plate, even though they aren't really that hungry? Why? A lot of it has to do with our upbringing. Think about how it was when you were a kid. We were always told to finish everything on our plates or we wouldn't get desert, get to play, etc. It was instilled upon us to clean our plates. While this may seem like the polite thing to do, it can also hurt us in the long run. It leads to overeating and weight gain.
When you feel full you should stop eating, no matter if you still have food on your plate or not. I see people all the time who keep eating just because they have food in front of them, not because they're still hungry. Another great tip in this same area is to slow down while eating. You will be amazed at how this will help reduce your food intake. By slowing down your eating you will give your brain a chance to tell you that you're full.
9. Eat Several Small Meals
Try eating several small meals throughout the day instead of 2-3 big meals. It will help reduce overeating and the hunger cravings you can get during the day. Try snacking on fruits and vegetables.
10. Get Into A Good Habit And Treat Yourself Well
It is said that when we do something 21 times in a row it becomes a habit. Use this to your advantage with your eating habits by being consistent. Once you start practicing good eating habits they will begin to come to you naturally. What you once used to eat will no longer be something that you want now. Next, reward yourself once in a while for doing so well. A small snack of something you really love is great. It keeps you feeling good about what you're doing.
These tips are just a start, but just by following them you can be well on your way to losing those unwanted pounds. Take it one day at a time and don't quit. Just because you don't lose 20 pounds this week doesn't mean it won't work for you. Weight loss takes time and a great deal of patience. But, with a little effort on your part, you can do it!
