10-reason-why-yoda-rules-look-900-year-old

Standing only 2 feet 2 inches tall, Yoda may not be the largest Jedi Master, but he certainly is the coolest. Little is known about his early years, no one is even sure what type of creature he is or where he is from. It is speculated that he achieved the rank of Jedi Knight at age 50 and Jedi Master at age 100. At the end of his Jedi training, it is said that Yoda entered into 100 years of self imposed solitude spending this time gaining a better understanding of the Force. Here are 10 reasons why Yoda rules:

10. He places verbs after the object and subject. Some examples would be, "begun this clone war has" and "when 900 years old you reach, look as good you will not".

9. He has mastered all 7 forms of lighsaber combat. This is one Jedi you don't want to meet up with in a dark alley.

8. His cane doubles as a snack. It is a little known fact but Yoda's gimer stick cane was in fact a gift from the Wookies and contains nutrients that can sustain him.

7.His voice sounds like Frank Oz. How can you not rule when you sound like the voice of the guy that also voices Bert, Grover, and Cookie Monster on

Sesame Street
. Not to mention was best pals with a guy named Jim Henson.

6.He is rumored to be a vegetarian. Though it is not known for a fact, Yoda has never been seeing eating animals, only roots and vegetables. It is believed he has a very strong empathy for all living things he feels through the force.

5.He is able to lift large items such as star ships with his mind as seen in The Empire Strikes Back.

4.He has the ability to see into the future. Using his Jedi powers, Yoda can not only see into the future he can sense others' futures as well.

3.900 years old but does not look a day over 100

2.He can weld a lighsaber better than anyone, as seen in his epic battle with Count Dooku in Episode 2: Attack of the Clones

1. He is Green, what more can be said, he even out ranks the former top green guy Kermit the Frog

For those of you who wish to learn more about why Yoda rules, please watch Star Wars Episodes 1-6.

10-quick-weight-loss-tips

Have you wanted to lose a few extra pounds? Are you tired of trying the latest weight loss diet out in the market? Then maybe it's time to get back to the basics. Try these 10 weight loss tips and get started taking off those unwanted pounds today.
1. Write Our A Goal

How much weight do you want to lose? Write it down. Whenever you have something written down you are telling yourself that it is important. A goal is no different than writing down something you need from the grocery store. You're saying this is something I want to be sure and do.

2. Start An Exercise Routine

I know this one may sound unpleasant, but in order to lose the pounds you will have to get some exercise. The good news is that you don't have to work up a storm and sweat like crazy in order to accomplish your goal. You can start by exercising just 30 minutes 3 times a week. It need only be brisk walking or riding a bike. Later, you can work out with some light weights to burn even more calories. The best advice anyone can give is to start out slow and don't burn yourself out.

3. Cut Down On The Soda

This one will get most people. I know, soda tastes great, but it certainly is NOT less filling. The amount of calories and carbohydrates in regular soda is enormous. You'll be amazed at how much weight you can lose by simply giving up the regular soda. Try drinking bottled water instead.

4. Cut Out The Junk Food

Notice I didn't say cut DOWN, but cut out? It's for a good reason. Fast food and junk food is the single biggest contributing factor to weight gain that there is. If you doubt what I am saying I would encourage you to look at the number of carbs and calories on that fast food meal you're eating for lunch or dinner.

As a quick example, a Grilled Stuft Burrito from Taco Bell comes in at a whopping 79 Carbs and over 700 Calories! Or, a Big Mac, large fries and soda from McDonald's will load you up with 187 Carbs and nearly 1400 Calories! These are just two examples of thousands I could list. Is it any wonder we are putting on the weight as a nation? Fast food is literally killing us.

I know it's not realistic to never eat a fast food meal. I would only encourage you to try and eliminate it from your diet. The bottom line, fast food and weight loss do not go together in any sense of the word.

5. Drink Plenty Of Water

The best thing you can do for your body is to fill it with water. Not only is water great for your body, but as an added benefit, it gives you a feeling of being full. You'll notice that you won't eat as much if you drink plenty of water. Your stomach is fooled into thinking it's already full.

6. Don't Get Caught Up In The Latest Weight Loss Diet Plan

Has this ever happened to you? You start out on the newest weight loss fad and lose a fast 5-10 pounds, only to go off of it a few later and gain the weight all back. If you're really unlucky you'll even put on a few extra pounds to boot! It's frustrating to say the least. By sticking to the weight loss basics you'll go a long ways in losing the pounds naturally, and keeping them off over time. Isn't that your real goal anyway?

7. Don't Skip Breakfast

Eating breakfast is important with any weight loss plan. By simply eating just a small breakfast will help reduce the cravings you'll inevitably get during the morning if you don't. It helps to keep your body well balanced and healthier.

8. Don't Overeat

This seems like a common sense tip, but have you really watched how people will eat everything on their plate, even though they aren't really that hungry? Why? A lot of it has to do with our upbringing. Think about how it was when you were a kid. We were always told to finish everything on our plates or we wouldn't get desert, get to play, etc. It was instilled upon us to clean our plates. While this may seem like the polite thing to do, it can also hurt us in the long run. It leads to overeating and weight gain.

When you feel full you should stop eating, no matter if you still have food on your plate or not. I see people all the time who keep eating just because they have food in front of them, not because they're still hungry. Another great tip in this same area is to slow down while eating. You will be amazed at how this will help reduce your food intake. By slowing down your eating you will give your brain a chance to tell you that you're full.

9. Eat Several Small Meals

Try eating several small meals throughout the day instead of 2-3 big meals. It will help reduce overeating and the hunger cravings you can get during the day. Try snacking on fruits and vegetables.

10. Get Into A Good Habit And Treat Yourself Well

It is said that when we do something 21 times in a row it becomes a habit. Use this to your advantage with your eating habits by being consistent. Once you start practicing good eating habits they will begin to come to you naturally. What you once used to eat will no longer be something that you want now. Next, reward yourself once in a while for doing so well. A small snack of something you really love is great. It keeps you feeling good about what you're doing.

These tips are just a start, but just by following them you can be well on your way to losing those unwanted pounds. Take it one day at a time and don't quit. Just because you don't lose 20 pounds this week doesn't mean it won't work for you. Weight loss takes time and a great deal of patience. But, with a little effort on your part, you can do it!

10-common-hair-growth-myths

1. Brushing your hair 100 strokes every night will help it grow.

Brushing hair actually causes damage and split ends because it pulls hairs out of their follicles. To keep your hair healthy, try to avoid over styling.

2. Cutting your hair will make it grow faster.

This may seem true for facial hair, but the hair that grows on your head has different properties than that on your face. Cutting your hair will not do anything, but make it that much shorter.

3. Hair-loss comes from your mother's side of the family.

Inherited baldness can come from either side of your family tree and can even skip several generations.

4. If you always use the same shampoo, eventually it will stop working.

Your hair will work the same no matter how long you use it. If you find a shampoo or conditioner that works well for your hair, rest assured that you can stick with that product for as long as you like.

5. If you pluck out a gray hair, two or three will grow back in its place.

This myth is absolutely not true, but regardless it is still a bad idea to pluck hairs. Plucking them out can leave behind scars, damaged roots, or cause infections.

6. You can repair split ends.

Once hair is split, it's split. There is no repairing split ends.

7. Wearing hats will make you go bald.

This is false. Hats aren't tight enough to cut off circulation to follicles, so there would be no damage done.

8. Rinse Out Conditioners Do Not Work Because You Rinse Them Out

Rinse out conditioners work very effectively for conditioning your hair when they are applied immediately following hair washing. They work because even though you rinse them out they leave behind a deposit of proteins and other moisturizing ingredients that remain on your hair and help keep your hair better conditioned, smoother, softer, and shinier.

9. Salon Products Are No Better Than Drugstore Products

This myth is easy to bust simply by comparing product labels. Salon products are generally a lot higher quality than their drugstore alternatives. This is because they are usually manufactured with higher quality ingredients and they contain expensive ingredients that you generally wouldn't find in drugstore products. So, if you want to use the best, highest quality ingredients on your hair, definitely chose salon products over drugstore brands.

10. You Should Wash Your Hair Everyday

This hair advice is not true for everyone. Some people may need to wash their hair every day while others may only need to wash their hair once or twice a week. There is no one hair washing routine that will work uniformly for everyone. It's best to wash your hair on whatever schedule works best for you based on your hair type and texture.

9-tools-helped-me-quit-smoking

1. Knowing and forgiving myself.
Personally I think quitting cold turkey is the best way to quit, but I also know that allot of cold turkey attempts end in failure. I've known that I might relapse and that I've still saved myself from smoking as much as I otherwise would have. I just dust myself off and try again. I knew I'd eventually smoke less and less, and finally quit completely! I kept myself accountable, but didn't beat myself up. Quitting is a long journey.
2. Avoiding stressful situations and taking breaks at work.
Smoking was a small vacation for me, the only thing that allowed me to clear my head and enjoy a moment. My favorite realization about smoking is that I can take a break from work without having a cigarette, it's the break that is needed! I often take longer breaks than I would have if I was smoking. I go for a walk or enjoy my lunch slowly.

3. Meditation.
Meditation gives me control over my emotions and stress. The better I got at calming down manually, the better I got at resisting the urge to smoke.

4. Focusing more on my teeth.
A healthier looking and feeling smile is one of the first rewards I'd gained from quitting. It got brighter and brighter as the weeks went by and gave me a healthier ritual to practice, brushing and flossing.

5. Adding cardio to my life!
Walking or running (if you can) is a wonderful place to start, either outside or at the gym. It was a great way to guage my heart health improving. I just signed up for my first 5K!

6. Downloading the QuitNow! App.
This app kept me excited about quitting. It kept track of data for me including how many cigarettes I haven't smoked, how many days I've quit, how much money I've saved and statistically how my body was healing and recovering. There is also a forum where you can share and read other's triumphs and setbacks, which was comforting when I was vulnerable most to relapse.

7. Picking up cigarette butts, in my yard and around my community.
Picking up cigarettes, in their must disgusting form can be therapeutic! It was outward expression of what I was doing for myself inside.

8. Avoiding smokers.
Most of all I avoid riding in cars with smokers because if the smell doesn't make me want one, it makes me really sick to my stomach. I also won't allow people to smoke in my own car, which I'm proud now smells of stress busting vanilla and sports a 'No smoking' decal.

9. Keep reminding myself of the consequences.
All it takes for me is knowing one person who looks older than they are and gets sick almost too often to hold a job. Smoking is in complete control of this person's life. If you don't have a horror story close to you, look them up. You'll have plenty of stories to read. According to the American Cancer Society, about 443,000 people in the United States each year die from illnesses related to tobacco use. Smoking cigarettes kills more Americans than alcohol, car accidents, suicide, AIDS, homicide, and illegal drugs combined.

8-ways-create-balance-achieve-lasting-weight

Need to lose weight? Dreading the thought of another diet program? You don't have to follow diets to lose weight. There are many people discovering this for themselves and they are finding long term weight loss apposed to short term fixes. The key to weight loss is finding the right balance of what you eat, what you think, and what activity you do. It is not about following a perfect plan. It is impossible to be perfect every day! Finding the right balance helps you to decrease your calorie intake, increase your metabolism and keeps the self-sabotage at bay. Here are 8 steps to bring more balance into all corners of your life so you too can find weight loss success.
1. Eat more frequently during the day
Skipping meals or waiting too long between meals can have a negative impact on your metabolism and results in overeating later in the day. It's best to have 3 small meals and 1-2 snacks throughout the day. You will feel more satisfied and eat less. Plan to have a snack or meal every 4-5 hours.

2. Portion Sizes
Appropriate portion sizes are still quite misunderstood. Most Americans are eating 2-3 times the recommended portion sizes. Limit your grains, cereals, pastas, and rice to ½ - 1 cup serving sizes. Keep meat, poultry and fish to 4-ounce portion sizes. Restaurants are notorious for giving extremely large servings of food. Keep this in mind when eating out. Eat half of the food on your plate or take the rest home for lunch the next day. Studies show that when people are given large portion sizes, they eat up to 56% more calories without realizing it. To add insult to injury, our portion sizes are larger than they have ever been. Start to become more aware of the portions you are served wherever you are.

3. Eat the right fats
Yes some fat is important. Omega 3 fatty acids are an important strategy for weight loss success and yet most Americans are not eating enough of these healthy fats. Some reports show these fatty acids may be helpful in increasing your metabolism. They are also shown to be a wonderful mood supporter and people report significantly less food cravings and triggers to eat when they incorporate omega 3 fatty acids on a daily basis. This is especially important for any emotional eaters out there. Omega 3's are found in fatty fish such as salmon, mackerel, cod; they are also found in canola oil, walnuts, and ground flax seeds.

4. Increase fruits and vegetables
Fruits and vegetables are not only packed with important vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, they are also loaded in fiber and low in calories. Include 5-8 fruits and vegetables every day. This is one of the most important diet changes you can make. When you fill your plate up with fruits and vegetables you eat less of the higher calorie foods. For example, let's take a sample steak dinner.

Original meal:
8 ounce steak
Whole baked potato with fixings
½ cup steamed broccoli

Meal Makeover:
4 ounce steak
½ baked potato with fixings
½ cup steamed broccoli
Side salad with mixed greens, tomatoes, and 1 tbsp light vinaigrette dressing

By changing the balance of this meal to include more vegetables while decreasing the steak and potato we saved approximately 350 calories. Saving 350 calories daily can result in almost a 1 pound weight loss per week. Small changes are the key.

5. Eat when you're hungry, Stop when you're full
Our bodies have an innate weight management mechanism. It performs this task by making you feel full when it is time to stop eating. Every time you eat past full you are taking in more calories than your body needs which will result in weight gain. Start to become more aware of your internal cues for hunger and satiety (fullness). You will be amazed how many times you wait too long to eat and how often you eat past full and enter into stuffed. It's common for all of us to do this from time to time. However, it's time to check in with yourself and see how often you are falling into these food patterns. Listen to your body, it will tell you when you are physically ready for food and when you are ready to stop.

6. Exercise regularly
I know, this isn't anything you haven't heard before but it is a crucial part of weight management. It is important to engage in regular aerobic and weight bearing activity. The aerobic exercise helps you to burn the fat and weight bearing activity increases your metabolic rate. Muscle burns up to 90% more calories than fat. The more muscle mass you have, the more calories you will burn in a day. By adding three to five pounds of muscle you could actually burn 100 - 250 additional calories a day. This combination of aerobic and weight bearing activity is what really kicks weight loss into gear.

7. Limit Sugar
Sugar becomes a major issue for many people wanting to lose weight. Not only does it add calories, it also causes insulin spikes leading you to store more calories as fat, it stimulates your appetite, and is a major food trigger for emotional eaters. However, it doesn't mean you need to go all or nothing. When people try to omit all sugar from their diet they can become obsessed about sugary foods and end up in a binge. Find the right balance for sugar. Avoid daily use of sugar and instead have some guiltless treats once in awhile. A little cake at a birthday party or some ice-cream with friends is a good way to incorporate sugar once in awhile to avoid the negative outcomes.

8. Pamper yourself regularly
Who wants to argue with that?! The reality is many people eat for emotional reasons. Food makes us feel good on many levels. The problem occurs when eating becomes the only coping mechanism your subconscious knows of. This is why that pesky urge to emotionally eat is so strong. It is hard to reason your way out of it. For many people food is the only thing they know that makes them feel better. When you start to do other things that make you feel good on a regular basis such as taking a hot bath, going for a walk, having a hot cup of tea; then your subconscious starts to register these activities as coping mechanisms as well. Over time this will decrease the constant urge to use food. You can't expect to have a bad day, go take a bath and not have an urge to eat. It is something you need to do regularly and something you truly enjoy so your subconscious starts to recognize it as a new choice.

8-steps-burning-calories-fast

Losing weight is as simple as burning more calories than you eat. However, burning more calories than you eat is easier said then done for most of us. Over the last few months I have managed to lose thirty-two pounds. Many days I needed just a few more calories to get my full five hundred calorie deficit. So I had to come up with easy ways start burning extra calories.
Wear Heels
My Body Bugg showed that on the days I wore heels I was burning calories at a higher percentage than non-heel days. I actually discovered the higher percentage on accident when we had an emergency on the way home from church and I ended up wearing my heels all day. Even though I was standing around most of the time I burned about 100 more calories then I normally do just standing around. So I did a short experiment where for one day I switched between two pairs of shoes every hour. The hours that I had heels on I had a base calorie burn of 1.7, without the heels I had a calorie burn rate of 1.3.

Make Extra Trips
If your life is anything like mine you don't have time to exercise. So how do you make sure you are burning calories so that you have a deficit? One way that I found for burning more calories is by taking extra trips for everything I do. In other words when I am cleaning I put away one thing at a time, when I get a glass of water but also need to use the restroom I take a trip from the couch for each task. By taking extra trips I can ensure that even on fairly inactive days I get steps in and thus ensure that I burn more calories.

Fidget
Whenever you find yourself having to sit in a meeting or at the movies you can still be burning calories. It is as easy as fidgeting! Jiggle your foot, bounce your knee, etc. Fidgeting doesn't burn a ton of calories, but any calorie burned is one calorie closer to weight loss. Besides, it will help keep you awake during those long boring meetings...

Lose Your Chair
Trade your chair for an exercise ball. Not only will you strengthen your back and improve your posture, but you will find yourself burning calories. Add some sand into your ball for stability. The sand will also ensure that the ball is not always rolling away. Buy an exercise ball for every room of your house and your desk at work.

Add Weights
There is one downfall to losing weight and that is that the more weight you lose the less calories you burn just by moving. When I first decided it was time to lose weight I found it easy, even on inactive days, to easily burn 2,500 calories. Now thirty plus pounds down and I am having trouble burning 2,500 even with thirty to forty minutes of activity! So, I got some ankle and wrist weights that were just a few dollars at Target and added some of the weight back. Now I am burning more calories with every step I take without extra effort.

Stand, Don't Sit
Whenever possible choose to stand instead of sit. Standing burns more calories than sitting, plus you can walk in place and burn even more calories. On the bus, stand. In your meetings, stand. Waiting for your kids after school? Get out of the car and stand. Better yet walk to the classroom and surprise them at their door.

Drink Cold Water
Your body has to warm up the water before using it to hydrate your body. Every time your body warms up a 16 ounce glass of ice water you burn an extra 17.5 calories. When you drink the recommended daily allowance of water you will be burning an extra 140 calories a day!

Eat Negative Calorie Foods (See article written by author)
Recent scientific research has revealed that foods high in cellulose are so difficult for the body to digest that they actually burn calories! Burning calories couldn't be easier. Some high cellulose foods are celery, asparagus, apples, and blueberries.

6-reasons-become-vegan

Veganism is a lifestyle that promotes health, the environment, money, and versatility. Avoiding animals products isn't as hard as you might expect. By making the right choices you can develop compassion and a healthier lifestyle!
A good reason to become a vegan is the animals. By eating fruits, vegetables, nuts, and grains you can save many lives. What better way to teach your children compassion by not killing. Animal cruelty extends not only to people like Micheal Vick, or the millions of others who torture animals, but also the ones who support the horrible acts of killing. Many animals located on factory farms are packed so tight they never get to do anything natural. Cows can't graze, pigs don't get to roll in the mud, and chickens often die from the bad conditions. We often buy our pets gifts and treat them like royalty, but when it comes to our appetite many farm animals get the short end of the stick.

The next reason to become a vegan is your health. Meat has no fiber and is laden with with fat and cholesterol. Obesity is an epidemic in our country. What better way to make a change then to start eating fruits and vegetables! Heart disease is the number one killer and you can reverse unclogged arteries by following a vegan diet. Erectile dysfunction is another medical issue that can be mixed with a vegan diet. A USDA study found that 98 percent of broiler chicken carcasses had detectable levels of E. coli, indicating fecal contamination. Avoid harmful illnesses that live in flesh foods. There are more than 50 million cases of meat-related food-borne illness every year in the United States, thousands of which lead to death.

Help the environment by eating vegan-friendly foods. Climate change, water pollution, land degradation, and a decline in biodiversity are the effects of animal agriculture. Veganism uses less of our environmental resources and causes less damage than an animal-based diet. According to the University of Chicago, switching from the average American diet to a vegan diet would reduce CO2 emissions by 1,485 kg per year. Extensive farming of the land to grow feed, for the animals that we plan to eat, damages the land. Why not just grow vegetables to feed ourselves?

Veganism can save you money! Meat is expensive. The average price for a 10 pound bag of potatoes, that can feed a family for a week, is $4. The price of a pack of 2 pounds of meat, that may last one night, is $8. Lettuce, lemon and olive oil dressing, with some tomatoes makes a nice salad at around $5 or less. Meat, salad, and a vegetable for dinner will run you about $15. Veganism not only promotes quantity you will also get better quality food.

It's said that a clean conscious sleeps well at night. When you purchase popular brands of organic vegan-friendly foods they donate portions of their money to charities. Paul Newman states this on his brand. Soy Joy is another good brand. Amy's makes wonderful frozen foods that are available in all popular stores like Publix and Kroger. You'll feel better at the end of the day knowing what your money is being used for. Be a conscious consumer.

Not only will you gain these benefits from becoming vegan, but you'll get to experience some wonderful tasting food you never knew existed. You may love tofu, soy milk, vegan "fake" meats, or fruits and vegetables never tried before. Express your creative side and create some delicious vegan meals!
